Threats come in many forms, and countermeasures must adapt to the changing reality. We are focusing on innovation where the demand is the highest, while keeping an eye on what comes next.
Portable technology for small but heavy drones. Additional thrust at the moment of launch lets a heavily loaded airframe leave short or unprepared ground rather than a prepared runway, so what a platform can carry is no longer set by the space available to get it airborne.
Engagement of unmanned aircraft at altitudes up to 10 km. A guided interceptor is placed onto the target, covering the band in which hostile unmanned aircraft operate and in which conventional air defence is disproportionately expensive to employ.
Approach
Conventional air defence systems are optimised for conventional threats - resulting in high unit costs, complex supply chains and limited scalability. At Zealand Defence Systems we rest our approach on four pillars that break with the traditional approach.
Mass-produced attack drones have made cost the deciding factor in air defence. We design for large volume manufacture, so that unit cost falls to a level proportionate to the threat being countered rather than far above it.
Equipment that fits what operators already field. For NATO users that means our products integrate with existing logistics, support and command arrangements instead of requiring a parallel chain of their own.
Designed and manufactured within European supply chains. That protects availability when demand rises across the continent at once, keeps production under European control, and avoids dependence on components a third party can restrict.
Our technical concept contains no conventional explosives. That makes storage and transport safe in a substantive sense rather than a procedural one — a property of the design itself, not of the handling regime around it.
